Queensland Figurative Award 2020. RQAS (WINNER)

I was a successful finalist and awarded the winner of the Figurative Award, by the Royal Queensland Art Society, Brisbane. The concept and conditions of the prize are novel and extremely relevant for serious figurative painters to aspire toward.

This painting is based on some on personal experiences I had while living in Germany. It took several years of intermittent work to complete and many studies were created to tease out or expand the original concept while tackling the full sized painting. A central figure was based on a well known Rodin sculpture and the figures generally were influenced by his primal and roughly hewn forms.
